British Horse Society’s Horse Owners Certificate Level 3

This course is available to all those interested in improving their knowledge, technique and competence of caring for their own horse. Delivered in a friendly, professional environment in a small group of between 4 and 8 participants.

The syllabus leads on from Levels 1 & 2, although it is not a requirement that you have obtained these certificates in order to take the Level 3. The course is available to those aged 15 years and upwards. Participants do not have to be members of the BHS

The syllabus briefly covers:-

  • Common injuries and ailments.
  • Management of the stable and field kept horse.
  • Routine care procedures (teeth, worming etc).
  • Clipping, trimming and plaiting.
  • Care and maintenance of horse transport; Preparation of the horse for travel.
  • The care of the horse trekking and in competitive events.
  • Fitness and condition, and the maintenance of both.
  • Stable construction; planning regulations; layout of stable yards.
  • Horse clothing and bandaging.
  • Feeding and care of forage.  
  • The costs involved in keeping a horse.

Written Exam on Sun 12th December

Cost of exam £20

Delivered by a BHS Registered Instructor at a BHS Approved Centre
